lyrics I dig.

I should not be doing this when I have heaps of other things to do. For TOMORROW. But “City Middle” by The National came on and I felt compelled to share the lyrics. It ain’t what you’d expect from any song really. I actually was put off by it when I first heard the song. I’ve slowly come around to it. I keep murmuring the “I wanna go gator around…” lyrics sometimes when I’m walking around, which might not be a good idea.

Karen, take me to the nearest famous city middle
Where they hang the lights,
Where it’s random and it’s common versus common
La di da…

I’ve got five hundred in twenties
And I’ve got a ton of great ideas;
I’m really worked up…

I wanna go gator around the warm beds of beginners.
I’m really worked up…

I have weird memories of you
Wearing long red socks and red shoes
I have weird memories.
I have weird memories of you
Pissing in a sink
I think I have weird memories of you…

Parking your car, you said, I’m overwhelmed.
You were thinking out loud, you said, I’m overwhelmed…

You said, I think I’m like Tennessee Williams;
I wait for the click;
I wait, but it doesn’t kick in.

free time?

Along with the task of being a graduate student, I will also be taking part on other projects because I have ever so much free time on my hands. I will be:

1. Nonfiction Editor of an online magazine.

2. Proofreading and editing chapters of an anthology related to world accountancy.

3. Editing and compiling a collection/portfolio of photographs to submit to Made in the 216.

4. Revising and submitting a fiction – and hopefully a nonfiction – piece for a slew of literary journals before March 1. (Yes, this will be a difficult undertaking.)

5. Submitting something for my university’s new literary publication as well. Not sure what yet. It can’t be nonfiction.

As you can see, there will be a lot of free time open for me! I really hope to get a lot of drive for some of these things soon because when February hits, it will be tough to tackle everything.

end of 2010.

There were a lot of great albums that came out in 2010, but these five are probably my favorites in the end. I added my favorite song from each.

Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
“Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”

Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest
“He Would Have Laughed”

LCD Soundsystem – This Is Happening
“Dance Yrself Clean”

The National – High Violet
“England”

The Walkmen – Lisbon
“Stranded”

There were others I really enjoyed (Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy; Bonobo – Black Sands) and others I just started listening to that came out in 2009 (The XX – XX; Passion Pit – Manners), but I think those listed were the greatest overall. I hope to listen to more that others have mentioned, but I won’t alter this list.

slow start.

Mary gave me a new journal as one of my Christmas presents. I haven’t written in it yet. I said I would every day of 2011. And so far three days have gone and I haven’t written a single sentence or word in it. I hope to in a few minutes after this entry has been sent off for all to see. It’s still a bit disappointing that I have not made time in these first days of the new year to write in the journal, especially since I have had time to do so.

I have relaxed a lot, hung out with Mary, played Nintendo after not doing so for approximately five years, slept a lot, bought quite a few of my books for the upcoming semester, stabbed at a crossword.

That’s all. No writing.

I also need to revise and send out a short story for various literary journals. I intended to do this over the winter break. That isn’t done as well.

More focus, Risner!
